Entertainment for Seniors

One-hour session includes:

COMEDY: Stand-up comedian Jackie Lawrence tells Jokes and razzes the audience.

LIVE MUSIC: Accomplished musicians play “The Hits” – seniors get to karaoke, sing-a-long and dance to Sinatra, The Beatles, Elvis, Country, Jazz, Blues, and more!

TRIVIA: Jackie’s comedy includes memory exercises and trivia questions.

Jackie Lawrence

Jackie Lawrence has performed at comedy clubs all over the country. His performance venues include the Hollywood Improvisation, the Comedy Store, and Dangerfield’s comedy club in New York.

Jackie is also a senior citizen. He appreciates the many challenges of his fellow seniors. Jackie uses his comedic talents to challenge seniors with memory games, while keeping it simple and very funny.

“My performances allow seniors to engage their memories, their bodies (seniors at my shows get up and dance) , and to simply feel good about themselves. It’s a one hour escape from their physical and emotional challenges.”

Fred Sokolow

Fred is a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, Dobro, autoharp and lap steel.

He has been a fixture in the acoustic music scene since the 60s, as a bandleader, sideman and session player in jazz, rock, bluegrass, country and folk music, but he’s best known as the author of over 150 stringed instrument instruction books and videos that are sold all over the world.

His music has been in numerous movies, TV shows, albums and commercials, and (to name a few unusual credits) he played lap steel on the Tonight Show, banjo on the Survivor show, Mandolin with Rick James, and Dobro with Jerry Garcia and Chubby Checker!

Lynn Sokolow

Lynn Sokolow has been playing stand-up bass with the ukulele community ever since her husband Fred Sokolow carried her over the uke threshold!

She also plays in two bluegrass bands and in the original all-woman quartet, Sugar in the Gourd.

Although she began in her 20’s playing electric bass in rock and R&B bands, Lynn also plays ukulele bass, and teaches that tiny bass at ukulele festivals all over the country.

The thing about Lynn, is that the primary focus in all of her musical endeavors is to generate as much fun out of playing as is humanly possible, and this is her philosophy when it comes to teaching.

Mike Monagan

Michael Monagan is known for his award winning work writing songs and producing albums for an internationally know group of special needs students called the Kids of Widney High.

Featured on CBS’s “Sunday Morning”, NPR’s “All Things Considered”, and the recipient of many awards including the Los Angeles Music Centers BRAVO award, and named Los Angeles Unified School District’s Special Education Teacher of the Year.

Michael has written songs that have been performed by a wide variety of artists and as a multi-instrumentalist to work writing, producing and/or performing pieces of music for films. He has released two albums of originals featuring LA musicians who have played with a wide range of artists from Rod Stewart to Frank Sinatra.

The late Dr. Norman Cousins wrote a best seller called “Anatomy of an illness”. Dr. Cousins tells us how, while struggling with his own health issues, he used laughter as a healing agent to improve the quality of his life.

Dr. Cousins has scientifically proved that that laughter is indeed the best medicine. Jackie’s performances for Seniors are dedicated to the groundbreaking work of Dr. Norman Cousins. So let’s all keep laughing!

Happy Care Home Clients

Dear Activities Directors,

I am pleased to offer your seniors an hour of live music, trivia and comedy.

My shows are interactive – I’ll have your seniors involved in every aspect of the show.

I encourage them to sing…and they do sing!

I encourage them to dance….and they do dance!

I challenge them with simple trivia games designed to stimulate their memory and improve self confidence.

They all participate and they all enjoy the process.

Please watch my videos, which include examples of my recent performances,

I look forward to entertaining your seniors.

Best Regards,

Jackie Lawrence
